Article about: I just noticed that theis thread is almost a year old, does anybody know if Chopper still have B-17 relics? PB, You seem to have the ability of finding B-17 crash info, could I ben your ear

    just a small amount of b17 parts i do have a huge box full, and a dog tag from a usaaf dump.

    Hi Chopper and welcome to the forum.

    Looks like you have some interesting finds in amongst that lot. Have you thought about cleaning the mud off them ? So long as you're careful you won't damage the relics and it will help to preserve them. It will also probably reveal marks on some items enabling positive identification as to their exact usage.

    ...this is a good start and should enable you to track his descendants down

    Other than that I can see headphone jacks along with 50cal projectiles and cartridges. Any chance of some more photos ?

    Some interesting items there Chopper.

    I can see a lump of burst oxygen bottle, an engine cowling support link, a parachute buckle, possibly a ball turret mounting bush and a few other items that may be identifiable from part numbers.

    Was this lot from the crash site you mentioned in another post? Do you know what bomb group it was from?

    yes it is, dont have any idea of the id for this B17, i was told they were running low on fuel so ditched it. cant find any information on the internet. crash at whitwell hertfordshire.

    YB-N: 508th Bomb Squadron, 351st Bomb Group, RAF Polebrook.
    Originally assigned to 401BG while at Great Falls AAF, USA, transferred with crew to 351BG on arrival in UK, 21st November 1943.

    31st December 1943:
    Fuel shortage on return from mission to Cognac forced crew to abandon aircraft over RAF Bassingbourn, aircraft crashed Whitwell, Herts.
    Pilot: Lt. Edward B. Apperson.
