That was a truely wonderful thing you did bringing peace to some one and their loved ones.
Simply Amazing
I know this is a very old thread, but I've came back to it and read the story several times now. Truely an amazing thing you did John, and thanks for sharing it with us. Hopefully some of the newer members can read all this and it will probably remind many of the possibility of finding remains whilst out searching for relics.
Thanks
Danny
Superb story and an honourable deed John. I'm glad you were there as witness to the final act in this soldiers life.
I hadn't read this before so thank you Danny for bringing it back to the surface.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Dear John Brandon,
First time I'd found this thread, what an excellent account of what you did.
You Sir, are a gentleman, and should be very proud of what you have achieved.
With my very best respects,
navyman.
Awesome story, it must 've been véry satisfying to be a part of this and experience this whole process.
Tell me / us how you experiences the funeral and the meeting with the family...
New Zealand had a recent discovery there. a local farmers 6 year old daughter found a dogtag which belonged to an ANZAC Soldier, which was recorded as MIA, he was given a Burial at the local cementry, although his body was never found.
Pretty interesting Berth. Do you know if it was it given back to the family or what happened to it? Ron
