    Hi all

I had a couple of days spare so decided to visit the British army dump myself and the RRPG have been digging for the past 3 years. It has always yielded some nice finds, although the volume is decreasing now, purely because I have examples of so many of the items there, I tend to leave a lot of stuff behind!! Also, the 'fresh' areas of the dump we have not yet excavated are proving difficult going. We need a digger!

    On to the finds.

This is what ended up coming home with me. It was another day for finding MG belt starter tabs....

This sign was a nice find, if rather damaged....

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

MG belt starter tabs, barrel brushes, oil bottles, ammo crate clasp and lots of Vickers cloth belt brass dividers.

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

Sten gun parts and a nice spike bayonet.

Two sten mags. These are currently soaking in a strong citric acid solution. I will post pictures of the results once they have soaked for long enough I have high hopes for this new rust removal technique!

Onto stuff after cleaning. Not cleaned everything yet as some is, as I've already mentioned, in soak

The sign. Looks like it comes from the storage area for an incendiary device, possibly No 76 grenades.

    Cleaned bits....

MG cloth belt starter tabs. Not in brilliant condition.....

    .....but 'readable'

Three LE oil bottles, two badly damaged Bakelite and one brass not-so-badly-damaged.

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

Markings on base of brass oiler.

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

Sten gun barrel shroud. This has been soaked in a strong citric acid solution for 2 days. It removed the rust very nicely

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

    Wooden ammo crate latch.

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

    Sling buckles, (NoBuckl)

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

A nice condition Long Lee butt plate.

British army dump dig - First dig of 2014

The tongue is nicely marked with unit information and WD arrow.

Lastly, after 4 days in citric acid, this spike bayonet has come out quite well. Seems to be one of the crude Mk 3 variants.

I will post pictures of the sten mags once they have soaked for long enough. The process appears to be working very well so watch this space!!

    Nice haul there.

The sign is definitely No.76 Special Incendiary Grenade or 'A.W. (Albright & Wilson) Bomb'.

I've got one attached to an original storage crate for them. All I need now is some AW-shaped bottles to complete my display!

    Regards

    Martin

Some uncleaned finds, including Sten parts, Enfield mag, some of my 50 starter tabs and other bits!
Also found about 15 Enfield butt plates (no pics yet).
I'll get some better pics of the Bren Tool in the daylight.

Just spotted an exciting find in my uncleaned photo, the long part directly above the Sten charging handle is very similar to a Browning M1919 trigger.

Edit: Thinking about it probably more likely M1917

I think you could well be correct Nice find if it is

Also in your un-cleaned photo, is that a Sten barrel above the M1919 trigger?

Also, the big bit of metal on the left with a right angle in it.......it is the winding arm/lever for a Bren 100 round mag. Got a picture somewhere.......gimme a minute......
