    Default Cambridgeshire RAF base finds

Hi guys, this is my first post on what appears to be a fantastic forum

I have to give as much input to the community as i can.

I am quite new to the detecting community.

I have permission to metal detect on a particular old base & have uncovered several items including the following pieces.

    Can anyone identify them?

the 2p coin sized object is stamped CBAF TOOL CHECK and I think is copper
I believe this stands for Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory & is some kind of calibration item, can anyone enlighten?

I think the large ring with 110mm diameter is a compression/pison ring from something.

The large lamp bowl appears to be made of copper & am unsure if this is car/aircraft?

The long pin is about 5" long and the twisted wire piece swivels, appears to be some kind of safety pin?

Any help would be much appreciated, appologies if the pictures have some blur, im working on it.

    thanks all.

The tool check could be a tally used if you draw out a tool from stores, use it to work on aircraft and then return tool to collect tally. Tallies stay with Form 700. Supposed to remove the chance of tools being left in aircraft which could compromise flight safety.

    Welcome extremalee,
You are correct, this is a great site. I'm hoping to start metal detecting soon but have a metal wheelchair, should be fun, at least someone else can dig for me!

    Welcome to the forum estremalee

I am afraid I am unable to help with anything other than the tool tally. This is the main problem with relic hunting on old RAF/USAAF bases (as I have found myself). A lot of the stuff we find is unidentifiable and their use lost in the mists of time. It does allow us to dream about what they COULD be though.....and make some great stories up to back them up

3rd down after the tally looks like a piston ring.

Hi guys, thanks all for the replies. Im having great fun out detecting.
Found a few more bits today.
Sorry I'm not much good at identifying them yet tho.
    Time will tell
Obviousy one is a wooden toothbrush, nice to find personal things.
Couple of buttons, unsure from what tho.
Some kind of small copper bowl, with a 3" or there abouts diameter, it has AC stamped on the bottom.

    Found 4 of those buckles

The bullets plate, i was well impressed when i dug that up, any ideas what from?

Help very much appreciated folks, loving the relics

Nice label! these were fitted on the tops of the ammo boxes in RAF gun turrets. Don't know which bomber though.
