    Do you who made it and when? the codes and date are on the slide, assuming it is readable. I suspect it is a mauser manufactured one. (BYF coded)

    Nice,, so a Mauser made P38 manufactured in 1943. Looks to be in decent shape from the areas you cleaned. Thank you for the information. Here are the codes for the manufacturers for P38's,,

    ac is Walther, they will usually a date stamped on the slide.
    BYF is Mauser, They always have a date code on the slide.
    CYQ is made by Spreewerke, no date stamp at all.
