Dug up British aircraft part ID help needed

This part was found in a old rubbish pit near a former RAF base , Does anyone know which aircraft it is from ? thank you for any help

Can I suggest you clean it and examine it carefully for markings? Almost certainly your best chance of getting an i.d. in my experience.

It looks like the hinge from a control surface, rudder or elevator. As Douglas says, clean it up, especially the hinge. My first guess would be American.
