    Default Eifel region 2008

Together with a friend i did some searching in the German/Belgium Eifel region, heavy fighting took place in late 1944/early 1945 between German and US troops.
The first time we searched together was a good day, first i picked a spot after i did some research and he had a very nice find.
At the bottom of a foxhole he dug up a German MG-ammobox.
We had a nice suprise after opening the box!
The live ammo has been put back in the hole it came from.
Then he took me to a spot he picked out and there i did some nice finds.
After this trip more would follow.

Amazing condition, you'll need to deactivate the ammo. I guess that type of ground well preserved the items, even the cloth and papers.
You need deep search with deep detector like a Fisher Gemini 3

    We left the ammo behind.
When we opend the box we could still smell the weapon oil!

What are those three tools(?) in the ammo box?

I'm pretty sure those are tools to link and de-link the belted ammo.

Hi, they are not tools. They are spare bolts for the MG42.

    Cheers, Ade.

The MG42 parts are bolt and cartridge ejector assemblies.
