Default Fairbairn dagger near St-Valery-En-Caux (France)

    Hello,

I just registered on this forum, and this is my first post.
Thank you to share all your knowledge on the WW2.

A farmer near my location gave me a Fairbairn Dagger, 3rd pattern.
I've cleaned it, and now I am searching information : why this dagger was here ?
I live near Saint-valery-en-Caux, in France. I get information on a raid by No12 commando, operation Forfar Item.

Have you any other informations on this raid ?

    Thank you

Operation Forfar item was part of a series of raids carried out by 12 Commando along the French coast during 1943 , the one on St Valery took place between 1-4 Septmeber 1943.

12 Commando were known as the Irish Commando, see this link.

    Thanks !

I found this link few times ago, during my research for infos.
I send them a mail, and the answered that the raid was led by Capt. "Micky" Rooney, of No12 Cdo.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Very nice find.

All I can tell you is that it is a Third pattern knife.

    Cheers, Ade.
