    Default German crane hook?

I found this near a German airfield about a year back, it still has parts of the red primer left. Could it be some sort of crane hook for something aircraft/refueling related? It was found in what appeared to be a kitchen, about 20 meters away was a Kraftstoff refueling station.

An interesting item. The traces of orange/red primer paint seem to match those that are often found on kanisters. The orange/red base coat was applied hot, and prevented corrosion.

Darn it. I knew somebody would reply with that.

I noticed that I forgot the pictures in the first post and I'm like "MUST POST BEFORE PEOPLE COMMENT!".

Pictures have been added to the original post.

Its not a crane hook per se, It is however of a similar shape for using with slings or strops for a straight lift providing this was bolted or fixed to the side of a frame or such.
I believe this to be of an age much later than that of WWII, late 1950's or 60's
