Default Luftwaffe SC 50 General Purpose Bomb

My lovely SC 50. (Sprengbombe Cylindrisch)

After many years of waiting and hoping, I finally got my hands on this beauty.

Always wanted a Luftwaffe bomb, especially a "Satan" (far too big), so this '50 will do nicely.

This particular one was German made for the Spanish Civil War.. and then returned to the Luftwaffe as surplus stock.

It was made around 1937/38, most probably dropped from a Dornier 17, as this is a "early" type '50 General Purpose bomb.

They would have took off from Airfield in France, 1940/41, and dropped it on a Factory in Essex, where it was "found" twenty-five years ago.

    It was defused in situ.

It had a type 15 fuse, which is a Direct Impact bomb, and it has a nice clear Waffenampt stamp and number.

Unfortunately the "Tail" didn't come with the bomb, it was taken off by the Bomb Disposal chaps.

Finally released by the Bomb Disposal fellows and much sought after by collectors, this was snapped up by the chap who restored it beautifully.

Cleaned inside and out, original wings where found and attached, correct fuse and locking ring added, and finally repainted in the correct colours.

It's very nose heavy, and the little dent in picture 6 (from the top) is all that remains from it's plummet to the ground, all those years ago.

Absolutely delighted to have this as my "Friend" ...

Completely free of explosives, totally inert, Don't drop it on your toe

Now that is something you don't see everyday! Very nice. All you now need is the plane to display it on!

The chap who restored it, undid the original welds and cleaned the insides out, and put it back together again.

Finally a nice paint job and now it's mine
