Went out to the site again today. I got the bottom half of one of those 11mm Gras and a the very bottom of a 2nd! So there is more than one. First find of the day a .50 cal head , picked up some more Triang rounds .45's and .30-06's (sadly all missing the tip for some reason these all rot off), the real gems where a 1944 dated quater of a dollar, Dummy 2inch mortar fuze, drill J fuse from a mills, great condition Spigot mortar fuze, a cut in half .50 cal maybe for a lighter (more bored aircrew?) and ofc another 16 sets of large PIAT fuze cases and 1 small with a few few odds left over. Pics to follow once I go and get my camera lead from upstairs but you get the idea for now.

Also we found another ammo box wing nut for Andy (bringing the total to 3)

The big round thing and the shell base stayed behind. NO idea what the round thing is but I know where it is if it is actually anything good!

The 'J' fuze from the Mills is a DRILL one and fits perfectly into a centre column! "Happy days "

It looks like that .50 Browning proj. (not "head", please!) is either black or black and silver tipped. Either way it is Section 5 and prohibited......just a friendly word of warning.

The .50 HEAD is blue and dirty and has been disposed of in a proper manner...

    Jolly good!

.50 blue tip is Incendiary M1.

Great finds again DM. I totally love the dummy mills fuse.......awesome.

Looks like you've also got a bomb pistol arming vane in your finds as well. Not sure which one and can't check my books cos I'm still in hospital atm.

Oh.....one other thing as well. Tony, I believe I am correct in thinking that only incendiary 50 cal projectiles had the double band. Is this correct ?

Let the battle of the pedant's commence !

Yes, the .50 incediaries had the two cannelures.

The Incendiary M1 had a light blue tip and two wide knurled cannelures, whilst the Incendiary M23 had a two tone light and dark blue tip and one wide cannelure at the case neck and a narrower one above. The latter is not seen so often though.

No battle my friend, there is room in this world for two distinguished pedants!
