The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Very nice photos looks like a fun trip..............
I'm sure you can tell I read this thread, from all the 'likes' you just got. I've been wanting to go for a couple years now. Bill, you and myself were thinking about going in 2011 but never was able to save up money for the trip. Hopefully we will go together sometime, now that you're a veteran! Thanks for all the great images from the trip. You did a great job of documenting everything.
Dean
Hi Dean, thanks.
Yeah you are right. Now that you mentioned it i remember talking about this. I think it was in the ''big thread'' (photo pick ups - please share)
Bill was supposed to come too, but something happened and he had to cancel.
It's not easy to save up for such a trip when you are a collector because most of our money are going on collectibles You can't say... ''i won't buy this tunic coz i want to go for a trip''. It's frustrating lol
But on the other hand, if you plan it long before then you can save 100-200 euros each month and have the amount ready when the time comes.
Looking for the photo albums of Leutnant Emil Freitag, 3. / G.R. 377
It is my goal to join one of these digging trips also one day.
My 2014 is already booked up, perhaps 2015 could be possible.
Wow, what an excellent and exciting trip! And a superb post! Thanks for sharing man!
