great new photos. The museum was the best.amazing
We also went to the road of the Tigers in the Boot of the sacks and to where Caruis's HQ bunker was on the Kinderheim , Chris should have some photos
Sooden's headstone is now at the museum at Vaivara as a new one is being built for Jõhvi and the old one was to be thrown away , but now it lies close to where he was KIA . He was killed by a direct hit on his command bunker in the Old Vaivara cemetery , now the same place is the home to memorial plaques of the dead from The Estonian SS Units and SS Panzer Gren Rgt 23 Norge !!
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Ok gents let's continue.
4th day of the trip.
Digging at the Auwere Bridgehead. A vast area of swamps and huge trees. One wrong step and you can stuck in the mud.
Herr Carius knew this well when he was thinking how to entitle his book. "Tiger Im Schlamm" (Tigers in the mud).
If i am not mistaken the 1st photo depicts the Rollbahn that Carius was mentioning in the book. The road that the tigers were using to move around.

Paul and I found an MG42 position. It was surrounded with barbwire and the place was full of shells and live rounds.
We also found a large piece from a Russian 120mm mortar round, so you can guess the end of the MG42 team.

And few live grenades that we found, but Mr Paul wouldn't let me take them with me
