I've found a couple of these at the site, they seem to have been chrome covered brass. I have no idea what they were used for.

Photo 35 appear to be of battery clamps or is that too obvious?

This relic was found just lying on the surface. Its a shame this is all that remains of a British Helmet, the steel shell having rusted away to nothing

This tube seems a little too big for oxygen supply, so perhaps it's from an engine it has a quality stamp.

Here are two flare gun cartridge bases, a few fragments of aero armoured glass and perhaps a handle from the front of radios or electrical equipment to enable access to the circuits inside.

Finally and this was a surprise to find a Royal Naval button? and it came out shining too. There's no record of any Fleet Air Arm or Naval activity at this site.

    Hi Bobby,
Thanks for your id and the AM prefix code 5J also confirms it they are a battery clamp.

44 isnt a royal navy button, could be Dutch navy or similar. The crown will give it away.

    Hi Bobby,
Thats great news, I assumed it was British because it has a London maker on the back, but of course there were lots of Nationalities based in the UK who had to be supplied by British manufacturers.
    Very interesting.
    Thanks again.

Some more excellent finds LS. The formica discs.....any remains of any kind of dial on them? They look similar to a camera exposure counter that I have. The gaskmask piece is in superb condition !

Cheers Steve thanks for the suggestion, sadly I can not find any trace of markings on the discs, but I think I may have found the use its part of some sort of tuning device. I found one at the Lancaster base and it has the discs and wires running through each of the holes. So when its cleaned I'll post a picture to compare.

I hope someone can help identify this large head gasket for 6 pistons, It's perhaps one side of a 12 cylinder engine. I've spent a couple of nights trawling the web trying to find pics of say a Merlin head gasket but had no joy. Can you identify what it came from?. When found it was rolled up so I very carefully unrolled it underwater to stop any dust. If its something interesting then I'll give it a few coats of matt varnish.

Yesterday I had a free afternoon so went out for a quick search, four hours later I returned with these.
I haven't been to this site for a while and was surprised how different it looks now its completely covered in nettles 5 and 6 feet tall. It wasn't easy but I had a scratch around and recovered a few interesting relics as shown. I'll post pictures of the choice items when they're cleaned.
