Yes they were better than the German tanks in mud and snow because of the belts. Correct Being able to drive in mud here is really important. I think winter tracks have spikes as well. Some have anyway. Just some additional info.

    Cheers

The Germans fitted Ostkettten and Ice cleats to the tracks during winter but the T34 was still the best Tank in the winter conditions !!

Do you have one? Be interesting to see the comparison!

Just out of curiosity, did a T34 have wider tracks than say a Panther ? It’s well known one of the T34's advantages was its wide tracks and performed well in snow???
No Konigstiger at Narva so no track for me !!

The KonigsTiger was a formidable beast and certainly performed well during 1945 in the East but were overwhelmed and all eventually lost in action during the final Berlin Battles !

Yes awesome machine but too un-reliable and underpowered. Weak gearbox and underpowered engine, same Maybach unit as Panther and Tiger I believe! Unsuited to Blitzkrieg warfare, similar to the KV2 I guess

Here is a nice piece of Panther track link found at the Narva Front !! From the location and the fact that only one unit at Narva had panthers , SS Panzer Abt 11 , " Hermann von Salza " it has to be from one of their Panzers !!

Only just found this thread Paul, but that is a very nice find! Even better that you can find the unit history
Looks like a hefty bugger, but awesome none the less, much better that what I'm finding, Paul's Panther Track vs Harvey's Lee Enfield Butt Plates, hmmmm
    Thank you for sharing!
