Hi Jakke, what I can say is this:

The photo does not show a "Russian" soldier. A guy of Russian descent is another matter. America is made up of people from different backgrounds after all.

The US Army and the Red Army had very little co-operation. Any which did occur was late in WW2.

There were no mixed joint US/Soviet Red Army units.

Now that Duke's Grandad is dead, sadly we will never know the story.

    Cheers, Ade.

Yes, I fully agree with what you say. I was aiming for their Russian descent, but my english vocabulary wasn't satisfactory enough to describe that .

    Regards,

    Jakke

i wish i could tell you the rest of the story! All i know is that my Granpas unit (635th Tank Destroyer Bt.) was the farthest eastern US unit at the end of the war and that he told me that they had met up with some Russian tankers near Berlin but that is all i know . I did some research on the M1941 jacket and now i see that the man is wearing such a jacket but the color is what threw me off
