R.A.F relic found on Omaha beach

Article about: Could someone tell me what this was use for .It has the R.A.F mark on it and also it say aircraft.It was found on the cliff on the top of Omaha Beach If this was use for a aircraft why would

    Could someone tell me what this was use for .It has the R.A.F mark on it and also it say aircraft.It was found on the cliff on the top of Omaha Beach If this was use for a aircraft why would it do where I found it .What else was it use for ?

    It is some kind of battery housing/case................

    Do you have any more details on it.For what plane,where in the aircraft.......

    To be honest it could be out of a variaty of different aircraft, maybe if you find out what kinds of planes contained equipment that required these types of batteries that might be able to narrow down your search

    I have tryed but I did not get anywhere.Some items are just items in this case.

    I was thinking this myself, as why else would it have been found there,
    unless it somehow got into the hands of the Army or Marine Commandos for radio use.........

    Or better still, washed ashore from a downed aircraft !
    See if it will float in water - this might be the answer !

    ( It is not a battery per se, but only a 'cell'. Two or three cells make up a true battery,
    but definitely used to power radio equipment. If it had been on a plane, say,
    a single engine fighter, it would have been centrally
    located in the fuselage directly behind the pilot. )
