It is some kind of battery housing/case................
'LEAD ACID ACCUMULATOR'

To be honest it could be out of a variaty of different aircraft, maybe if you find out what kinds of planes contained equipment that required these types of batteries that might be able to narrow down your search
Nice interesting item though
Thanks
Danny
Well, you should just hang onto it and don't forget about it because you might just see one somewhere else
Thanks
Danny
Could it not be part of a aircraft radio for a forward air controller (FAC) ?
I was thinking this myself, as why else would it have been found there,
unless it somehow got into the hands of the Army or Marine Commandos for radio use.........
Or better still, washed ashore from a downed aircraft !
See if it will float in water - this might be the answer !
( It is not a battery per se, but only a 'cell'. Two or three cells make up a true battery,
but definitely used to power radio equipment. If it had been on a plane, say,
a single engine fighter, it would have been centrally
located in the fuselage directly behind the pilot. )

Steve.
