i like the bomb trailer and it looks restoreable (ish) it would look great with a replica cookie and placed as a gate guardian on an old bomber base.
steve the head gasket in you found is from a ford 21 stud flathead v8 and probably came from a wot2 or wot6.

Compared to the vehicles we restore at work, the trolley would be a piece of cake to be honest. Theres a thread already on here on wartime era vehicles we have done have a look here and you will see what I mean

Yes a fair chunk would need replacing but quite a chunk of original could be reinstated....

Going to start cleaning some bits up later today so will post them up in due course

    I can't recall seeing a Type D in preservation, plenty of C's and a few B's but not a D.
It would be nice if it could be saved for the future.

    First batch of cleaned stuff

Some really nice finds from the day.

Bottom of the picture is another glim lamp bakelite disc, plus the reflector dish that went under it, AND a dome that covered it ! I also found a complete glim lamp but it was so badly rusted it fell apart

A brass ring covering a rubber ring. P40863/1 and a 'W' stamped on it.

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

The three stainless steel rods all have codes stamped on the head. Any idea what they could be off ?

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

Two nice bakelite knobs, off radio or radar equipment.

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

Both nicely marked on the top, but where are they from ?

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

An electrical component that at first glance wasn't marked, then I spotted something on the 'clamp'..... WD and an arrow ! Anyone know where it's from ?

One of the finds of the day. An Air Ministry marked bomb arming solenoid. The code was corroded away on the body of the item.........

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

..........but still visible on the top. 5D - Aircraft Armament Electrical Stores

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

Here are two pictures I found showing the solenoid. You can see it in both diagrams at the far left end of the rack.

Three bits. The little wheel is strange and unfortunately carries no markings.

The little pipe connector does though...... 10H Radio Connectors, Discs Indicating, Fuses, Leads, Plugs and Sockets and Ancillary Parts, Holders and Terminals.

This little tube was given to me on the day of the dig. Being a pharmacist, they quite rightly thought it would be a great little item. Nothing too special about it you might say......

......until you gently unscrew the top and take out what's inside.....

A couple of toothbrushes, two of many found on the day. Unfortunately mine aren't WD marked or dated.

More No 28 caps and another pistol. On the day I estimate upwards of 30 No 28 pistols were recovered by members of the group

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

    They are all marked....

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

My finds of the day. No 848 fuze parts. Three bases, one with the cover in place, (but badly corroded), and two in awesome condition. Three caps, two in fantastic condition, one not as much.

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

As you can see this one is not in wonderful condition.

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

    But these caps are....

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

....and they still fit the bases perfectly !

RAF base dump - RRPG dig - Feb 2013

Plan is to finish both of these off with the top columns that I recovered the first time I went to the site. I'll post pics once I've sorted them

    More to come !
