The three stainless steel rods all have codes stamped on the head. Any idea what they could be off ?

R3 = Avro.
The same prefix was on all those small airframe brackets that turned up.

Nice I've got a few of those brackets. Will clean them up and check. Have you got a decent pic of the solenoid in place ? Can only find diagrams so far........

It's a 5D/927 Fuzing Unit Type C (or similar) btw.

No they didn't I'm afraid. Maybe next time........your equipment is going to be invaluable there. Would you consider coming to site to scan it, prior to the next dig?

some photos of the finds from saturday.....nothing cleaned up yet and a few mysteries. A fair few No28 pistols and caps, a couple of 848 bases, one half of a AM marked bomb arming solenoid (Ref No5D/610), a nice US (I believe) arming vane, some mystery electrical items, a stack of merlin exhaust gaskets, other "things", and the strange crimped metal tubes which appear to hold wadding of some sort - reminds me a brasso wadding - anyone know what they may be?

I'll post more pics when things are cleaned up. A good day

I was only 90% right when I field-ID'd this...

5D/610 is an SBC Adapter Box that fits into the same retainers on a regular RAF Universal Bomb Carrier as the various types of Fuzing Units.
They slide into grooves at each end of the carrier and are locked in place with the spring-loaded pin at the end.

The Adapter Box is wired in such a way that it prevents the whole Small Bomb Container from being released from the carrier when the Bomb Aimer presses the release button, only dropping the SBC's contents. However, it also has another circuit allows the entire SBC to be jettisoned if required in an emergency.
