    Default Remnants of Kampfgruppe Diefenthal

Found near the city of Aachen. These positions were occupied by Kampfgruppe Diefenthal, which consisted mainly out of SS Battalion Rink of the 1st SS Panzer Division and SS Battalion Bucher during the battle of Aachen in october 1944.

The position consits of a blown bunker, positioned on the top of a steep slope facing south and a few nearby dugouts.

What we found was for the most Czech material. We found about 4 filled K98k ammo pouches, parts of a MG37(t) and tools, Vz. 24 bayonet, miniatur Reichssportabzeichen in Gold and standard rotten German ammo, wartime coins, jerrycans and a pit full with empty Czech Mauser clips, all in a small area of about 10x12 metres near the bunker. The dugouts strangely contained only few American finds, .30 cal rounds/casings and empty Springfield clip.

I like the finds, especially the miniature Reichssportabzeichen. Could you tell me a bit more about your avatar? Are you a member of this forum as well:

    Hoi Nick,

I have been a longtime member at bodem-vondsten, you probably know these finds from there. My avatar is a WHW abzeichen found in the Saarland, it already stands in the "Along the Saar" topic in this forum .

Is it possible that the U.S forces blew the bunker to bits after the battle. That would explain the missing US artifacts?
