Default Rifle round from Omaha Beach

Recently I took myself on a battlefield tour of France and I visited all the beaches. In one bunker on Omaha I definately got lucky and saw three rounds on the floor, so my friend climbed in through the MG slit and took them.I shared them but I still kept one - here it is!

Also, my dad found this when he went to France and found it scattered near an old barn just near the beaches, they where half buried and one of them was under the ground.I THINK it's shrapnel but please tell me if I'm wrong!

Your cartridge case is a German 7.9x57mm, their standard infantry cartridge.

I would be surprised if there were shrapnal balls in Normandy. What is their diameter please.

We really need dimensions of both the balls and the other projectile. The "bullet" may possible be a British .380 revolver round but the nose has been deformed if it is.

If it is a shrapnel ball, the flat on the top ball in the picture is much more likely to have been caused when it was fired than by hitting something.

Also, please, they are not "heads". They are bullets, balls, projectiles, but not heads. That is an erroneous term cioined by dealers who should know better. The head of a cartridge is the other end, hence the term headstamp.

Sorry, rant over but it is a particular bugbear of mine.
