    Oh, and Richard, the inspectors stamp relates to............

    DH = de Havilland

    ...........as opposed to......

    DHB = de Havilland, Broughton
    DHC = de Havilland, Christchurch
    DHL = de Havilland, Lostock (usually propellers)

    Thought I'd take a couple of the better quality No. 848/42 bases apart to see what was in them.

    Electric pillar drill, wire brush attachment, max RPM. Works a dream

    I have finally got round to cleaning up the CBLS main plates recovered on the day. As well as the data plate, they also have stamped codes but I have been unable to match them to a specific aircraft type as yet, but still got lots more reference sources to go through

    They came up quite nice after 20 minutes with the wire brush attachment on my drill Unfortunately the inspection stamps are too faded to read as these would at least have given me the factory that produced them. Oh well.

    Cool Re: RRPG Big Dig weekend - Day 1 - RAF airbase dump

    I emailed the De Havilland museum last week, just got this email!
    Hello Richard
    Sorry for the delay in responding, as you will realise we are all volunteers and get a lot of requests for info.

    The part you have is definitely Mosquito , the part number S981045 breaks down as follows:
    S - Fuselage part
    98 - DH 98 Mosquito
    1045 - individual part number.

    I have checked the Mosquito NFII and FBVI parts manuals and it is not listed.
    I will try and check the bomber variant parts manuals when I am down the museum this weekend and get back to you.

    By the size of it, it could be a blanking panel for a camera port on a PR variant.

    Keep digging

    Regards

    I'm nearly as excitable as Stevo!

    I find that very difficult to believe Richard, ive never seen anyone more excitable than the stig,have you noticed how the veins in his neck start to swell, his face becomes distorted and his voice goes up two octaves, a bit like that bloke who sang the high pitched version of tip toe through the tulips!!!! , very sad to watch really especially for a man of his age

    True. I am dismayed to hear that someone believes they can get as excited as me. Terrible state of affairs.......

    It's a lack of respect Dave, that's what it is.
