Nice finds John - that Bren mag is in fairly decent shape.

I am really curious about the "thingy" - looking forward to the pics as always like a mystery!

I have been cleaning stuff and need help IDing some of the bayonet handles please, and a couple of other bits 'n' bobs. One of them is very strange !!

First up, the bayonet handles that survived the preliminary cleaning. The relics recovered from this trip were not in brilliant condition, with quite a few falling to pieces with even gentle cleaning. Fortunately enough were recovered such that the loss of a few didn't matter too much.

    Bayonet handles first.........

Here is close up of the unusual one. It doesn't even feel like a bayonet, reminding me more of a fighting knife than anything else. Note the distinctive serration where the handle meets the beginning of the blade. What is it ???

A couple of LE oil bottles, one of which appears to be full of oil. I'll see if I can get the top off. The other little clasp I have no idea on. One of 5 or 6 found by Salzburg.

An unusual scabbard chape. Not in very good condition but it would be good to get it IDd.

A trigger + action. Initially I thought it may be off a Martini-Henry but it isn't. Any idea what it's off ?

Butt plates, (the ones that survived). Most appear to be Lee-Enfield with one Long Lee and one Lee-Metford (right hand side with the long 'tongues'). The little one on the far right has a big curve in it and I don't know what it's off. Do you ?

Lastly a few of the MG belt starter tabes. A couple of Vickers belt tabs, some long Browning tabs and some short ones.

I am now going away for the weekend and the majority of the above half cleaned stuff is now in vinegar. It will stay in there until my return on Tuesday..............I'll post more pics after they have been washed on Tuesday.

The unusual "Bayonet" handle looks like a machete piece, the unusual trigger assembly , i know this is going to sound stupid but it looks like a winchester 73 , it also has the side bolt where the ring would attach

    Great stuff!

The dagger handle is an Afghan khyber pass dagger - I believe.
    2012-10-25113100.jpg

The bayonet scabbard tip looks like the one on my Mauser Butcher - leather type bayonet earlier than the all metal one.
    2012-10-06213934.jpg

The action and trigger group looks like a Remington rolling block rifle - hammer looks a little different and there would be a lever on the other side of hammer.

    Nice finds!!!!

    pit.
