Although the Nazi leadership would have never admitted that the Soviets had some superior equipment, the troops at the front would have had no such political concerns about picking up a weapon which funtioned well. Sniper rifles were always prized, as were PPSh41 sub machine guns, even T34 tanks.

Weren't a lot of the first purpose built tank destroyers marder etc fitted with the Russian 76.2mm anti tank gun, rechambered possibly, as superior to any thing in the German armoury at the time such as the 37mm doorknocker. Plus a large quantity had been captured. Wasn't Skoda, a recent joke as a car manufacturer, a world renown producer of arms readily used by the wehrmacht. The t35 was i believe a Czech made tank, handed to Hitler by the French and British in exchange for peace in our time, which was far better than the early pz 1 and 2. And probably the mk111 as well.
I also remember reading that the first leave men detraining in Berlin from outside Moscow in the winter of 1941 caused a panic as they were dressed in Russian uniforms ,including fur caps with red stars, taken from Russian dead as their own kit wasn't up to the Russian winter. As a result of this halfway houses were set up that leave men had to pass through so they could be kitted out as what the German public expected their soldiers to look like, not a half Russian hybrid tramp.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but this interest me. Is there any record that the Germans got hold of Russian tanks and used them repainted them with German markings etc ? Now that would be bad if you were Russian being shot at by your own tanks. may have happened the other way around as well Russian capturing German tanks and painting them Russian markings.
It could also be a good way to get behind enemy lines, use one of there captured tanks

Hi there is the film on youtube of the German used T34 being pulled out of the lake in Estonian , you can see clearly in the film the German have painted their markings over the top of the Russian markings ,It was a normal thing to do in Wartime if you came across some thing you could use you would put it into service with your own army , the Finnish Army were very good at this and alot of its tank force in ww2 was Russian tanks captured and used againist its former owners
