Hi everyone,
As some of you will know i was lucky enough to be on a big dig on a USAAF dump last weekend and as usual the finds were just outstanding!!
I managed to grab a couple of snaps of the digging for you to ponder over and i will post some of the finds i was able to take back with me for you to look at when i get time.
The photos have come up in a random order so i wont list what things are but if you have any questions pick the photo out and i will do my best to explain or i will pass and wate for PB to tell us.
Enjoy Andy
This is a cooling cap for a B17 turbo charger and its worth noting that this was taken away by one of the sally b crew and may well make it back into the air again after 65+ years in the ground.
One of the most interesting finds of the weekend was a cowl flap from one of the first 8 B17s the US sent over. Im sorry to say i didnt get a photo but i will try and find one.
Andy
Looks like a great dig Andy, is that the biggest hole you've been in(if you know what i mean) Wish we could borrow that digger for the Army dump
Hi dave,
That digger would be just right for the Army dump! A nice big trench is just what that place needs!!! The problem is hireing one this big with a driver is not cheap and a mini digger at the army dump wouldn't be man enough for the job IMO.

Hi Andy
Great finds ... is that ammunition box from a B-26?
Simon
It's the right-hand box from a Martin A-3/250CE upper turret, fitted to the B-24, B-26, A-20, late Lancaster, etc.
This particular example came out along with a stack of B-24 exhaust collector ring sections, so is most likely from a B-24 too.
All the best,
PB
