    Not so many secrets in digging, other than keep searching/digging. The ground is only frozen at the top 10-15 cm. It can be difficult to get through it, but then the soil is pretty normal. However you will have to keep digging because the soil in the hole will freeze up when exposed.

    Not as bad as I expected, for some reason i thought the ground would be frozen 3 feet or more,,,

    That clip design looks very similar to the M1 Garand clip, just on a much larger scale.
