Stalingrad: digging near Gorodisсhe & Gumrak

Now I am working on a construction site in the center of Volgograd. A few days ago I went on a visit to a nearby construction site, near the railway station. There are building a new residential house ... I was curious what there is in the ground ...

During the war, there were low-rise residential buildings.At the edge of the pit I found traces of the old cellar. The first finds were fragments of old dishes, even the time of the early 20th century...

Also in this pit were human remains. Maybe it's a German soldier, I do not know, we found only the upper torso, the rest of the body dug Excavator...








I found the eagle on the officer's tunic, an award for an infantry attack in a very bad condition and buckle Gott Mit uns

Amazing how some items stay so well preserved while others don't...
Judging by the photograph of Mamayev I can understand why it was important for both sides to capture and hold it...It's a very commanding position.
You don't use a metal detector, do you?
