As well a little finds all these things at the beginning of the 20th century ...
That's all. The chief engineer gave me only three days, so I could explore there ... I am very grateful that I had the opportunity ... very sorry that the finds in such a bad condition

Wow you found an icon of Saint John the Baptist. As a Christian Orthodox I would be very happy to find something as holy as this.
Looking for the photo albums of Leutnant Emil Freitag, 3. / G.R. 377

I am very glad that you marked these finds. This is not relevant to the Battle of Stalingrad, but it's the story of this city ...

In the big scheme of things, I understand why you'd state, that you dont find them 'interesting.'
How ever, I find those relics found there some very poignant relics indeed.
Food for thought. Some how the MG paraphernalia and spent ammo brings the bitter fighting on the that all important hill (to both sides) home.

I read through Sebastians last few post and commented on the below quoted post. As I was formulating my comment, you posted your above post. I wasnt commenting or disagreeing with anything you said; an MG and/helmet would be 'nice' (to say the least)

I find it fascinating, that Sebastian is able to live and breathe history where he lives and find his posts super interesting.
At the same time, I fully understand why he would like to find more than spent ammo (though I find a position surrounded by the MG relics very interesting myself).

Yesterday night ... Mamaev Hill ...

I found the position of the German machine gunner ...

Nothing interesting, only shells ... hundreds of shells...

    Attachment 542290
    Attachment 542291
No problem. All is good. A small misunderstanding due to me not elaborating and due to you not being a mind reader

This is a very rare find for the city ... after fighting a lot of people were in town and they were collecting weapons and military equipment ...I want to say that the state of metal in a very bad condition ...

In theory: this German machine gunner (soldier from 517 Infantry Regiment of 295 Infantry Division) could be killed by a sniper Vasily Zaytsev In the future, I'll tell you why
But I think the German soldier was careful on this position
He lost his pant (I found the buttons and pieces of skin from the shoulder straps), but he has not lost his helmet and MG
