the 2nd February was a landmark day...

71 years ago the 6th Army of Wehrmacht was destroyed by the Red Army in Stalingrad...

I've long wanted to publish a story about Mamaev Kurgan (hill)...

on the Internet I found many interesting maps and aerial photographs of the Luftwaffe. And now you can better understand the situation with my walks last summer...

Yesterday night ... Mamaev Hill ...

I found the position of the German machine gunner ...

Nothing interesting, only shells ... hundreds of shells...

This aerial photography and here you can see the marks that I made.

You can see that the German machine gunner was next to the railway bridge (railway Stalingrad-Moscow).

This positions the 516 Infantry Regiment (295 Infantry Division General Korfes).

left Metiz Factory there fought Vassili Zaitsev (284 Rifle Division, Colonel Batiuk).

This is a photo I'm standing near the MG position. You can see the hole and fresh soil.
In this photo you can see arc of fire for the German machine gunner. As you can see it was the most important railway bridge.

In this photo, the eastern slope of Mamaev Kurgan. You see it is very high and steep. As the photo just looked at him a German machine gunner ... obvious that this slope was in the German zone...

One thing about the map for sale at that price it needs a detailed examination to ascertain it is what it says it is !!
