    Андрей,

I have spent many days reviewing this thread and have been very impressed. I love seeing what you find, and like many others I wish I could join you in your archaeology digs.

    I have some questions:
    - I have been interested in excavation of El Alamein battlefield in Egypt, but there is a problem with large fields of mines (antipersonnel especially). Is that a problem in the Volgograd area?

    - Have you ever been hassled or asked to leave any of your dig sites by local police or others? Is it common for diggers to be removed?

Many thanks for the link to the maps . some very interesting ones of IV Armee Korps and in particular 29 Inf Div ( Mot) in which i am interestd in particular .

Andrey do you have any plans to explore the area around Karpowka ?
Paul, I have never been near Karpovka.
My friends have been there for several years ago. You could see the dog tag from the 71 mot Regiment
There's a very evil the owner area, a farmer, Mr. Chunikhin ... he does not like diggers.

Hello Sebastian, I will be in Volgograd in May. Could you recommend anywhere that militaria/artifacts are for sale. Shops, flea markets that sort of thing.

    Many thanks

    Robin

Robin, I think you will have problems when you want bring to home through customs...

learn the customs legislation of the Russian Federation... subjects older than 50 years you should be declare.

Arrive in Volgograd (Stalingrad) , taking photos of the city, walk around the city, buy souvenirs ... everything that tourists usually do
maybe we dig together, but I can not guarantee that I'll have free time. I working in the construction industry, I have a very difficult schedule.

Thanks for the advice Sebastian and the offer to go digging. I would love to take you up on this, sadly though I am only there for three days and have a very tight schedule before heading off to Kursk. Good luck with your digs.
