Two days at Verdun.

I was a week in the Ardennes and enjoyed nature. I decided to spend the last two days at Verdun (France). Here are the pictures.

Some nice finds. I like the cartridges and the rifle stock butt plate. If you're lucky the 'tongue' will have information regarding which unit the rifle belonged to.

Ingrid, I do not wish to be a "killjoy" but I was under the impression that it was highly illegal to metal detect and to ground dig relics in France, especially around Verdun ! with high fines and confiscation if caught/found by the Gendarmes......(correct me if I am wrong), any way I like your finds, especially the MG08 ammo belt tabs, heres a small length from my collection, albeit a post war Belgian variety, keeper tabs every 5th round, the German belt had 3 per tab...

Oh, for people who don't recognise the object in pic 8 and 9. It's a French Citron grenade. We left it there of course!!!

There is nothing to do in the verden hils at least with small detectors- the tons of the ground is closed trenches under a very deep layer of the ground. There more interesting places to find even a surface stuff- for approx a 1-2 km from the main first lines, where was a rear positions, and where a tons of stuff was removed from the wounded soldiers and all this stuff was thrown away to the garbage holes...

At there is no experienced battlefield hunters- let's hear what the "Robo's" says
