At the Victory Show this weekend I took three aircraft parts with me, found on an old USAAF airbase, that had never been positively identified. I knew they were from a P51 D because of the '109' prefix on the part code, but didn't know exactly what they were from. Well now I do, and it is all thanks to Maurice Hammond, pilot of one of the P51s that was at the show. I cheekily called him over when he was chatting to other pilots and, whilst he couldn't ID the parts there and then, promised to do so if I emailed the part numbers to him. True to his word, he has done so. He even sent me scans of the original technical drawings for both parts. A true gent !!!

So here are the bits. One dug in 2009 and the other in 2010.

This is 109-66047-2, and is item 2 on the Gun camera cover which fits into the L/H wheel well. A piece off the gun camera box......awesome !

And this is 109-54177-7 and is item 7 on the Generator control box which holds the Reverse Current relay and Carbon pile rectifier which is located on the rear of the firewall just behind the instrument panel.

Many many thanks Maurice. I owe you a beer and a slap up dinner

Just goes to show......never give up hope of identifying stuff

As for the little door part.......

    197410-2

Maurice said it wasn't in his P51 parts list so is probably P38.

Fantastic link PB. Just spent two hours going through it, seeing if I could identify other bits in my 'waiting to be IDd box'
