Unidentified item from 8th Air Force Dump

Below is a picture of an item which was retrieved from the dump site of a former B-17 base on Saturday ... It is clearly marked 'Remove this place before using' and is made from good quality aluminium.

As it looks like it was attached to something while it was in transit rather than being an actual piece of B-17 I guess it might be quite hard to identify ... hard for us mere mortals ... but probably fairly easy for the likes of PB!

Any ideas?

Can you show a couple of photos of the underside where that bit of metal sticks out and from behind as well i want to see the shape of that hole properly. How big is it?
