I recently remenbered that many years ago I'd seen a War Dept jerry can lying in a hedge in an area where temporary Army camps had been set up in the build up to Overlord the Normandy landings. Some of these camps had remained in existance until after the end of WW2.
But inevitably after 15+ years, since I'd last seen it I had doubts whether my memory was still correct or even did I remember the correct place and if I did would it still be there?

Anyway because today was a nice sunny day, the first we've had for months, I thought I'd take my older son for a walk, taking in the area just in case I was correct and it was still there.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves

Now my son wants it, so I've told him I'll do the cleaning to make it more presentable but its then up to him to smuggle it home past his mum

Thanks for all the comments and details of manufacturer which makes it all the more interesting to my son.

Its now cleaned up and ready for display, I was surprised by the amount of original green paint surviving (under the rust). It also appeared to have been numbered with white paint along the edge but only a few traces now remain.
It turned out a lot better than expected.
