What is this!

Article about: I found this next to an Ammunition Store in Northaw Hertfordshire. Its from WWII but my initial thoughts that it was a detonator. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Seems to feel like a metal casing. But I used a scalpel to scrap off the dirt and it seemed like carbon. Colour is a dark gun metal silver. I am thinking a battery. But not sure.

    I dig hundreds of these things up when out metal detecting for ww2 relics. It is a battery. By the looks of things a 'C' cell.

    Lol, a colleague that works at my dads work at an RAF base, thought it was a detonator lol. Just making sure, don't to blow my arm off :-)

    Quite right too !

    They are a bloody nuisance as they give a mixed tone when metal detecting and even the carbon rods give a signal !

    I hope your friend isn't an armourer !
