    Default WW1 Relic some sort of Fuze protector?

    Hi all. I have had this for a while. Picked it up near Fricourt on the Somme and have only just started to clean it up. On closer inpection I have found what appears to be battle damage (the hole was rounder but some metal came away during cleaning). It also appears to have a sort of indented circle on the top that I have outlined in red. I can see no evidence that it was threaded. Anyone have any suggestions? Cheers.
