    Hello Australian Guy,
The revolver looks like a Webley WW1 service issue in .455, with the birds head grip, which is pretty distinctive, but not proof of it being a Webley, the Spanish Eibar, some S+W's, and others, also having that form.
Although introduced about 1899, it continued through various marks until the Mk V, approved in 1914. This Mk had a strengthened cylinder for use with nitro powder. Strange to find it in a WW2 aircraft but the .455 was a powerful 'stopper' round and may have beeen preferred to the S+W Victory, Enfield No 2, or Webley WW2 issue in .38/200, (.380) cal. Possibly private purchase? The image shows the butt shape although this is actually a Mk 1.
A very interesting find and a great site to visit, hope you find even more on your next trip.
    Best regards,
    navyman.
