odd knuckle duster

Hi Gent's
i tried posting this critter in other areas , but i'm not getting much help in finding out what it is. i believe its U.S. stacked leather handle, steel knuckles, and what looks to be an m-3 style blade. only markings i can find are on the bow, l l 0 greatfull for any help, i can't find another like it. definitly not home made. sheath seems to be original to it because of the grip strap. it is longer than others for the bigger grip, and original to the sheath.

amazing! no one has seen one like this ? this knife is killing me lol. its not a matter of value. its just that it is so well made with familiar parts, there must be more, and who made it ?
i have searched and searched the net looking, to no avail. but i have found some interesting things in the process. the 1917 LF&C triangle bladed trench knife , had two different knuckle bows. 1st type had hollow pyrimid type spikes. the second type had the steel bow bent over so there were 5 flanges on each side. like seen on mine, but they were pointed to different degrees, and not left square like mine. but i believe the bows come from the same stock based on the over all design. the LF&C had a wood handle, mine is leather, but has the same basic design. but the blade is an m-3 from ww2.

As Nige says, Andrew.

Everything said on your first thread about this knife is all anyone knows
about this knife. This is why no one has responded any further.

I tried to research it from several authoritative books on US military
knives. (M. Silvey and G. Boyd) It may have been a prototype that
was declined because the military wanted something new and different
than the old "Knuckle Knife". A skilled cutlery worker, using left-over,
imperfect or rejected blades could have made up a few. These knives are
known as "private purchase" or "one-offs". Perhaps there were only a
few dozen or so produced, but the maker is unknown to the
military knife collector community.

The scabbard is a standard M8A1, made a bit longer only because of
the belt hook, hence the "A1" designation.

The above LF&C knives you have found in your search are well documented,
maker marked, and rather rare pieces. They are indeed similar to yours,
but only in their appearance. The smaller photo is an individually modified
M3, and not issue. Don't forget that the "M3" style blade was used on
three or four consecutive bayonet models after WWII.

WOW AZ Phil,
thank you for remembering me when you found that site. that sure looks to be the exact same knife as mine. at least that is starting to clear things up as to it being just a "one of" orphan, field made knife. it looks like it has family, and possably factory made. thank you again.

Hi Andrew, I think you found at least one brother to your knife. I like what the guy says in the article. "We still don't know what to think of this one." You've just got rare stuff there my friend. Once again, wicked looking knife!

it really is so well made i couldent believe it was the only one. it's nice to see i was right. there are more than one of these critters, but still, no one seems to know much about them. only time will tell i guess.
