Sorry-I'm not sure what you mean-do you mean which is more collectable or how useful they were as weapons of the period?

Which is more collectible? What sets them apart from the rest, rarest? What should I keep and which to sell?

.Look along the top flat edge of the blade are there any personalised names ie the ownerand what regt they served, this will be more collectable than plain ones as you will be able to prove some provenance. On the whole these are nice pieces to have although they usually dont command high prices anywhere from 50-150 depending on condition and history of ownership etc. It would be nice to see the blades out of their scabbards and closer shots.

Very nicely marked and believe it or not the first picture is of the very same one that i sold in the mid seventies, exact same markings even down to the scratch mark between the name and the rgt no/, try to research the various names mentioned and the rgt nos/ and gain provenance to each this will increase the price range but i would not contemplate selling any unless you really have to, i wish id kept the damn thing now!!!, good luck with your efforts., dave

That is pretty cool. I do not have to sell them, I just aquired a bunch of swords and bayo's from my dad. I did not know much about them. Do you have any links in mind to research the names you mentioned?

matching numbers will also increase the value, most of them have mis -matched numbers on the bayonet & scabbard

the Chassepot sword bayonet is the most common sword bayonet ever made, they are still easy to find, very common, thats why they are not too expensive.

Thanks for the info. I am trying to identify the maker marks, I am having a hard time finding who they are. Any insight on where to look?
