    I got this bayonet as part of a trade I did and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what I have. I have been told it may have been made for export to Turkey or Austria. Any and all help appreciated.

    Hi,it`s a S 98/05 nA,with the crown and date stamp on the spine it would have been German issued and used....Pete.

    Originally full length blade and then "Turked" between the wars. Blade and scabbard shortened. Grips replaced.

    Nothing strange - rather common turkish cut-off version from german-made "butcher" bayo.

    Here is my example to compare - brought from Afghanistan, not only cut-off but even saw-back

    Definitely shortened between the two world wars and sent to Turkey.. Originally a long German 98/05 Bayonet commonly referred to by collectors as the (Butcher Bayonet)....BILL
