In the same spot on the reverse side- 55123. The tip of the scabbard is marked 40 B 749 just like knife. When was this made and for what type of weapon? Actually any info is more than what I have. Thanks in advance!

Yes it is a bayonet and is a model 1889 and as you say , made by Alex Coppel , a German company . It was made for the Danish Army to accompany the Krag-Jorgensen 8mm rifle . The stamp on the crossguard ( the crown over the 01 ) is the Danish acceptance stamp for 1901 . The stamp on the scabbard ball says it was issued to the Danish Army's 40th Battalion and the weapon no. 749 , hope this helps a little .
