US 1861 Dahlgren Navy Bayonet
Comments: These bayonets were made from 1861 until 1864 and are typically marked USN/DR/date on one side of blade and Ames Mfg Co/Chicopee/Mass on the other side. Overall length is 424mm with a blade length of 305mm. The muzzle ring diameter is 23.4mm. About 1,800 were made during the entire 4 years (all by Ames). Fakes have been found with little value and can be typically determined by the crude construction and extreme high polish (some marked Japan in the mortise slot).

I suspect yours is a reproduction - if it isn't, it is worth a lot of money !
