Looks like a Gras, to me.

This may be a French M/1878 or M/1882, for Kropatschek rifle, manufactured by Steyr in Austria - A rare bayonet.

You posted this one before didn't you? I think we established it was a Steyr produced Gras. Of course many countries used this bayonet such as Ireland, Greece, Portugal
and contracts may have stipulated a shorter blade length. Definately not a Martini-Henry or any sort of British bayonet.

Please note that this is a Gras look-alike bayonet with straight handle, and not the usual hump-back M/1874 model.

    Edit:
I think the French navy used this bayonet on a Kropaschek rifle.

My opinion is similar. This is the Austrian production. Bayonets Peabody for Romania to hilt has hallmarks-"S" and the digit. Such hallmarks there and on my bayonet. It is a "OE WG STEYR"

I believe you are right - and it´s an even more rare bayonet.
(edit) …at least in Western Europe.

The dimmensions are same as Gras 1874, so it must be a export version of M1878 Kropatschek,b.r.Andy
