The hilt looks like that of the Bavarian Model 1892 Artillery sidearm (Bayerisches Artillerie-Seitengewehr M 1892) which were made using the blades of obsolete M1869 Werder bayonets.

However, these blades were curved (yatagan) as opposed to the straight blade on yours. Additionally, the conversions usually have the original Bavarian markings.

So I suspect you have a German sidearm from the late nineteenth century made as Didier said by Alex Coppel (who made some of the Werder bayonets).

Possibly a private purchase 'dress' sidearm.

It looks as if there was a red felt buffer at the hilt end of the blade.

    Interesting piece.

    Regards

    Richie
