    . French 1800s Combat Bayonet. This bayonet has a 22 1/2" long curving blade. This blade has age spotting on it, it is also marked on the back runner with French writing and the date 1868, the handle is brass. The scabbard is all metal. These curved issue long Bayonets were used most ofter by Naval or Sea Service Troops.

    The blade was also lightly sharpened.And the hanger on the scabbard is missing.

    Thanks steve ,there is a (m) stamped into the blade and a (r) and (m) on the cross gaurd .

    M1866 Chassepot bayonet
    not navy
    M is a control stamp, not for Marine
    to say it's a navy one, you must have an anchor stamp
    all bayonets Chassepot have a curved blade

    Hello-further to the above-bayo was made at the Tuille arsenal (now MAT) July 1872-many different makers for these including German and Austro-Hungarian.
