I dont know if this is the right thread but i have bayonet I believe its a S96 Imperial german army made by E F Horster. The markings are a crown with a capital W underneath and under that O6 and under that the proof markings. The blade is some 25inches long and has a flared tear drop towards the tip i think this is called either a sword bayonet or a leaf bayonet . On the cross guard there are these markings 56.R.E.2.31. Can anyone help to ID these markings and tell me please.

Hi Dave , from your description it sounds as though you have an S98nA " pipeback " bayonet . The markings you refer to i think stand for the 2nd Company , 56th Ersatz Regiment , weapon no. 31
