Default Lithuanian Bayonet / Durtuvas M24L

Here is a well used Bayonet M24L of Lithuania, a Exportproduct of the Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal (FN) and a copy of the Vz.23 bayonet of Československá zbrojovka (ČSZ)

    Totallength: 540 mm
    Bladelength: 403 mm
    bladewithness: 230 mm
    Diameter: 15,2 mm
Length of the scrabbard: 420 mm

    Maker: "Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal"(FN), Belgien

    Period of producing: 1935-1939

    Weapon: FN M 1930 short rifle - designation in Lithuania: M 24L - , Cal: 7,92 x 57 mm

    Stamps:

"Pillars of Gediminas" on the Handguard, the cath and the pointball.
    Number "33276" on the pommel
    "OP." of one Gripp

The M24L is a copy of the czech Vz.23 and has also the same style and direktion of the edge.
All stealparts of the bayonet are parkerized in a dark grey.
The grips were secured by two srews with bolts.
    The scrabbard is painted black.

This bayonet was ordered from FN 1935 until 1939. After the sowiet occupation in 1940 this arms gets the prize of the Red Army.
In 1941 the german Wehrmacht capture this bayonets. Often M24L were shorted or deringed by the germans.
Under german control the M24 L was renamed in Seitengewehr 129(r).

L means Lithuania and not "Long", i read often. This "Long" or the Name M24L for a standard FN M24 Export model isn´t correct.
