Purchased a bayonet that came in the store last week and I am having trouble identifying it. Only identifiable marks I've found are the numbers shown on the base of the blade. The blade measures 15 1/2 inches long. Appears older than most of the WW2 bayonet's I've had before. Please see the pictures, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

Hello-it's some sort of late 19th/very early 20th century Mauser export bayo-probably Spanish M/1893/13 Long bayo but is in only fair condition-would have had a leather and brass or steel scabbard.

Would it be common for there to be any other identifiable marks on this type of bayonet at all? Trying to find a place to clean and look. Just started cleaning it up a bit. Can't tell what substance is all over it, doesn't feel like rust. Unless it's just old rust.

Pretty poor condition, really. Try the central metal strip on top of the grip.
There may be a small marking along there somewhere - it would
not be unusual for markings to be scant or nonexistant.........

IMO, the 'checkered' grip is what leads to it being of Spanish origin.

I believe it is a Spanish 1893/16. On the ricasso opposite the number should be marked "ARTILLERIA Fca NACIONAL TOLEDO", although this is often not as deeply inscribed and can be difficult to read.
