Old wwii officers sword

Article about: hello i have found this sword that i would like to buy. I beleive it is either ww1 or ww2 but have no clue. the sword has no markings on it as i see. it looks like the handle of the sword is

    hello i have found this sword that i would like to buy. I beleive it is either ww1 or ww2 but have no clue. the sword has no markings on it as i see. it looks like the handle of the sword is snake skin or somthing. im not to familiar with swords and have no clue what country this would be from. it has the scabbard with is aswell. If anybody can help me with this item with where it was potensaly made, the value, and if it was either from ww1 or ww2 that would be great!. Any other information you can throw in would be great to

    Japanese sabre circa 1900 I would guess (Im no expert by the way)

    Not Japanese from here. Grip is ray or fish/shark skin. It looks like
    a European or English make, but what branch.........

    looks like a british light cavalry sword

    The sword 'knot' is not a typical English style, but the grip is.
    This is why I though it may be European.........

    I think that is Austrian - haven't got my reference books to hand will dig them out tomorrow.

    I believe this is exactly what it is - an M1861 Austrian Officers sword.

    Did a search for similar swords and found this
    is indeed the same type.........!

    yes thats the one thanx! i reacherched for like a good day and just couldent dig up anything that looked like this one thanx you saved me there i was getting a bit skeptical on it.

    awsm! so another thing know, i was wondering is it a pre war austrian sword? or could it have bee used durring the war?
